Junior Optical Transport Network Engineer (JONE525)

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated Junior Optical Transport Network Engineer to help design, deploy, and support high-performance optical networks. Responsibilities:
  • Assist senior engineers in the design and planning of optical transport networks
  • Support installation, commissioning, and configuration of optical networking equipment (e.g., DWDM systems, Muxponders, ROADMs, Amplifiers)
  • Participate in network expansion and upgrades under senior guidance
  • Assist in configuring and provisioning DWDM wavelengths, circuits, and client interfaces
  • Perform basic post-provisioning tests (e.g., BER, latency, optical power) under supervision
  • Help ensure provisioned services meet Service Level Agreements (SLA)
  • Use network monitoring tools to track performance and report anomalies
  • Assist in basic troubleshooting of fiber lines and optical equipment
  • Support network maintenance tasks and vendor coordination under senior supervision
  • Work with Network Operations Center (NOC) to diagnose and resolve network alarms
  • Assist field technicians with remote troubleshooting
  • Learn and participate in incident resolution with guidance
  • Maintain updated records of network configurations, diagrams, and inventory
  • Assist in preparing performance reports and network incident summaries
  • Work closely with senior engineers to gain hands-on experience
  • Participate in training programs and stay updated on industry trends
Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of optical networking concepts (DWDM, OTN, Ethernet)
  • Basic understanding of optical power, attenuation, dispersion, OSNR
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools and basic troubleshooting techniques
  • Exposure to optical transport equipment (Cisco, Ciena, Huawei, Nokia) is a plus, but not required
  • Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Certifications like CCNA are a plus (or willingness to obtain)
